1 | chopped onion | 3 T. | cooking oil | 3/4 lb. | ground beef | 1/4 lb. | ground pork | 1 - No. 2 can | tomatoes (Contadina) | 2 - 6 oz. Cans | tomato paste | 2 cups | water | 1 t. | salt | 1/2 t. | Pepper | 1 | bay leaf | 1 T. | sugar |
| Cook onion in hot oil, add meat & cook until white. Add tomatoes and tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Cook slowly for 1 hour.
Note: I never use the ground pork and usually use 1 1/2 lbs. ground chuck because we like the sauce meaty. Also, I saute fresh garlic with the onion and add additional spices: oregano, basil and italian seasoning - to taste. |
